If you have been following us for some time, you will know that we travel all around this great planet, to enjoy life and bring you guys our best advices and a glimpse of the things we see. One day we thought – Hey, we live in the center of Copenhagen, Denmarks capital, why don’t we give out some advice to travellers visiting this city? So here is our first advice about what you have to experience when visiting Copenhagen.
Denmark is world-famous for our restaurants and chefs, of which quite a few has been awarded as the best in the world. So of course, in “our” city you can find some exceptional places to eat – Noma, Geranium, Umami etc.
But we want to show you something better, more honest and with the focus on the food, taste and service.
On Holbergsgade, close to the harbor and the tourist street Nyhavn, you find Damindra – Japanese Restaurant. With a simple and cosy atmosphere the restaurant pays attentions to the details of the food and services, and not to a high tech fashionable decor. At the end of the restaurant there is a open kitchen, where you can see the chefs prepare your food. Each time we have visited Damindra, the quite low-tech surroundings makes us focus on the important part, the food.
We have tried a menu which is not on the card, but a menu the owner, Damindra Tillekeratne, puts together as you go along. A fantastic experience of taste, colors, composition, texture and service. The dishes are well prepared, and you can taste that everything has been made with heart and soul. The restaurant offers not only world class sushi, but also kushiyaki, tempura and topan yaki.
We have had sushi all over the world, and in some of the finest restaurants you can find. Damindra is in the very top 3 – and if you come to Copenhagen, this is really a “must-try” place to have a dinner that you will never forget.
We will let the pictures speak for itself, and just let you know that the taste is even better that you imagine from the pictures – so don’t cheat yourself for a visit to Damindra – and forget the hype of Noma, Umami, M.A.S.H etc.
Bon appitit – and happy travelling.
