When we visited Koh Samui in august 2013 – we were looking for something new, different and cool place to stay. Koh Samui is full of really nice luxury resorts, which, no offense, is more or less the same. In our search we came across something a tad different, Silavadee Pool Spa Resort. On the pictures it looked interesting, so we choose to book some days there, which we didn’t regret.
Silavadee turned out to be just the kind of place we were looking for. A 5 star resort, trying to do something different. It’s a private resort, build after the owners mind, and with a policy not to move or change anything from the original lot, which is older than the owner. A resort, where you are supposed to get a 5 star experience, while staying in a environment which has the deepest respect for the regional nature. At the moment the 2. phase of the resort is allmost finished, and we very lucky to stay in one of the brand new Ocean View Pool Villas – a 150 sqm private villa, with bathtub, shower and pool with at build in jacuzzi.
The villa was quite nice, very calming and relaxing, and the new part of the resort will offer a super cool restaurant and bar called Sun, Moon and Stars, which wasn’t finished when we visited the place. This is going to take Silavadee to a even higher level, because at the moment this kind of chill-out space is missing a bit. According to the GM at the resort, this last important part is set to be open and working before october 2013.
The layout of the resort was in our opinion real nice. It is build between all the old trees and rocks, so fx the pools at the villas is different in shapes, to match the environment. Some places there is a tree going through the edge of a roof, or the path takes quite a turn to go around some rocks.
At first, we were a bit chocked when we saw the beach – really rocky and not the kind of beach you would expect at a resort like Silavadee – at all. But then we learned that the beach is kept original, of two main reasons. One – there is a coral reef right outside the rocky area, so the beach is really great for snorkeling, and second – there are turtles nesting at the beach almost every year, and the resort want to keep it that way. Silavadee provides complimentary swimming shoes, snorkeling equipment, life vests etc. An suddenly it all makes perfect sense. An if you want to go to a sandy white beach, the resort is places betw
een Lamai and Cheweng – and you can go by the free shuttle-service.
So do you need anything else?
Yes – something to eat, and the resorts restaurant The Height offers nice and original thai-food, rich in taste and texture, with great views over the sea. You also need some spa-treatments, which is offered with the same soul, back to nature in excellent surroundings.

One of the things that stuck us the most, while enjoying live at Silavadee, was the attentiveness and kindness of the staff. Truly positive, kind and welcoming at all times both while checking in and out, booking tours, driving us around in the minibus, eating at The Height – we felt like we where at home the entire time.
Silavadee is a place we think you must go, if you like us, prefers luxury but at the same time want to try something different. If you care a bit for the environment, love nature in the original and raw form, but still want to pamper your soul and loved-ones with top-of-the-line service, decors, foods and spa-treatments. In the future Silavadee is going to be a hard competitor to Six Sense, Four Seasons and Banyan Tree – it just has a little bit more than the rest.
Happy travelling and enjoy life a bit…
