…or actually two lines. Every sunday two streets of Lamai on Koh Samui is turned into a walking street. The streets are divided in two different “sectors” one street with all the usual thai-market rip-off stuff that you can buy everywhere. Fake sunglasses, watches, souvenirs that you would not even give to your worst enemy, shorts, hats etc. In other words – this street is not why you go to the walking street, unless you have the urge to spend a little baht on stuff that you don’t really need.
The other street is, on the other hand, the main reason to go there – because this street is packed with food stands, where you can buy any kind of well known and unknown thai food, desserts, cakes etc. A great way to have a genuine dinner and a cosy night is to walk between some of the food stands and choose your preferred food for the night. We visited the market a sunday evening, had some great Pad Thai, a brought some cake and dessert back to Silavadee to enjoy later.
If you have your Samui base in Chaweng – you will also find a walking street there every friday, which is properly more or less the same. But we where not there, so your are on your own for that one 🙂
