If you have been in Thailand, you will know that there are temples everywhere – and Koh Samui isn’t an exception. So which temples should you go and see?
The Big Buddha Temple, or Wat Phra Yai and the buddhist temple Wat Plai Leam is located quite close to each other and therefore a good choice for some temple-hopping on Samui.
The Big Buddha is a 12 meter high statue sitting in the Mara posture, build back in 1972. You reach the statue by a beautiful stair and the surroundings buildings are also typically decorated with some beautiful craftsmanship.
The other temple Wat Plai Laem is very well known for the 18-arm statue of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy and Compassion. and offers visitors a combined Chinise/Thai ad week as some great art and architecture. The temple is quite beautiful and a really nice place to have a walk. The temple is active, and you will find a lot of monks.
These two places are a perfect stop for a tour around Koh Samui, and not to many tourists here.
