Bangkok has a lot of different things to offer, and as in many thai cities, there is a lot of markets all over the city. But each weekend there is popping up 30 acres of all kinds of stuff up, near the Mo Chit BTS Station. The name of the station is really funny, but also a good way to remember where to get off to the giant market 🙂
This market is called The Chantuchak Market (JJ) and is one of the world’s largest weekend markets. The 30 acres are divided up in 28 different sections and totals over 15.000 booths selling goods from all over Thailand. You can find anything from plants, furniture, clothes, interior design, live animals and art. It is not only a market for tourists, which only counts for 30% of the 200.000 persons a day (!) that visits the market. A lot of local thais go here to shop for their own shops. Actually the market is open from wednesday to sunday, but in different forms and concepts, and as a tourist you what to be there in the weekend.
JJ is not a place to go if you are not into vast crowds, because here is so many people every where, which you will recognize as soon as you get out of the BTS.
