What does Cleopatra, Duke Ellington and Alice from wonderland have in common?
They all have sculptures or monuments in Central Park i NYC. The park placed in the eastern portion of the central-upper westside, is 843 acres and owned by the city of NYC. The park first opened in 1857, but just a year later a design competition was held to improve the park, and the park was completed in 1873 as the Greensward Plan. The park had some inhabitants, most of whom were quite poor, which were cleaned out before the construction could start. Over the years the park has been refurbished and renovated several times. Eventhough the park seems very natural, the fact is that most of the park is artificial. You will find several natural-looking lakes and ponds, extensive walking tracks, ice-skating rings, a running track, an amphitheater and lots more. The great thing is that despite the park actually is quite packed with different offers, it still has a lightness and calmness that makes you relax while having a walk.
