The burger is said to have been created for the first time in America in 1900 by a danish immigrant Louis Lassen, who owned Louis Lunch in New Heaven, Connecticut. However, first 4 years later at the St. Louis World’s fair, the New York Tribune attributer the burger as the innovation of a food vendor. It has never been made clear who actually was the right inventor of the official 1904-burger, and there still is a dispute with a variety of claims.
Nevertheless – and no matter who invented this great dish – we had to try a true NYC-burger and tried to find some different good places to visit. We chose to visit 5 napkin burger in Hells Kitchen. The burger was first created in the restaurant Nice Matin, which opened on upper west side in 2003. The 5 napkin burger was so popular that it soon got it’s own stage.
So – how was it? The 5 napkin burger was a very tasty burger, with a good texture and we loved the simple way of “construction”. Chuck, cheese, onions and aioli – what more do you need?
The restaurant is very simple and cool in the decor and design, and refers to a slaughterhouse, with big hooks and tracks in the ceiling. You can get a lot of different burgers, dishes, wines, beers, maki-rolls etc. So you can got here, with the family, even though not everyone is in for a burger. Bon appetit’…
