In the outskirts of Vienna, The Schönbrunn Palace, will be a fabulous place for half-day trip, on a sunny day. This Palace is very beautiful, with the huge park, the small zoo and the Gloriette with stunning views over Vienna.
The heart and center of the old Vienna. This Cathedral is the most important church in the city, and on a bright sunny day, the different colors on the tiles makes the vibrant design stand out. Get a great work-out and walk to the top of the South Tower, where you can enjoy yet another place with great views.
Another Palace, and another breathtaking sight. The Belvedere is truly magic, and the sloped park, where you walk up towards the main building, is just beautiful in any way. As a little oasis in the center of Vienna, you can walk here from the State Opera.
Want to see something different, The Hundertwasser Haus is the ideas of an artist, combined with the mind of an architect, resulting in quite a marvelous piece of architecture. Not marvelous in the beautiful way, but in the strange way. – find out more here.
The Albertina museum houses one of the largest and most important print rooms in the world. Over 65.000 drawings, 1 million old master prints as well as modern graphics, photographs and architectural drawings. A great place for some hours on a not so sunny day.
Museum of Fine Arts and Museum of Natural History
The sense you get, while sitting in the center between the two buildings tells you everything – this is greatness in any way. Placed one the edge of the Museum Quatier the two twin building facing each other can make you spend quite some time looking at the facade – and then you haven’t even started on the real attraction yet – the two museums inside of Fine Arts and Natural History.
Parliament of Vienna
On the ringstrasse the Austrian Parliament Building is located, build in 1874 and completed in 9 years. The design and interior is stunning, and then the light is getting low a night, the facade full of columns makes this building stand out in a greek way. Draw by the famous architect Theophil Hansen – who was actually from Denmark – just like us.
This Palace housed some of the most powerful people in european and austrian history. Today it is the official residence of the president of Austria. During the Habsburgs dynasty Hofburg was the winter residence and Schönbrunn was the summer residence. Just oppersite the Museum Quatier and near Volkspark this a a place you almost can’t miss in Vienna.
The Town Hall
A little longer “down the road” from the Hofburg is the Town Hall, and the square in front. The building serves at both the seat of the mayor and the city council. In front of the Town Hall there are sometimes big national festivals There is a renovation project on-going at the moment, ending in 2023 – but the building is still worth a visit.
Vienna State Opera
You cannot think of Vienna, without thinking of the State Opera and classical music. If you want to go see a concert, do not worry how to get tickets, because these are sold almost everywhere. Just approach the guys in the baroc clothes at any attraction in Vienna. But you should also go here in good time, to have a little time to look at this beautiful building. Enjoy the music.
