On the very top of the Banyan Tree Bangkok, actually on the former helipad of the hotel, one of the famous restaurants of Bangkok is situated. Vertigo is a must to visit, when staying in Bangkok, and if you are not living at Banyan Tree, make sure to book a dinner here anyway. You will not regret it. Here is our Vertigo and Moon Bar Review.
Take the lift top the top of the hotel, and the stair the last few stories. Be aware that it will take some time to get to your seat. Not because the staff is slow, but because you will be stunned over the views from the top. Times stands still for some time. We have been to both Vertigo and Moon Bar before, but this place impresses us each time – you can spend hours just looking at the vibrant city at your feet, while the sun sets and makes the scenery covered in beautiful coolers.
We were guided to our table at the highest plateau, where we were having the set dinner menu with separate wine menu. But as we don’t drink wine, the very kind waiter quickly changed the set-up to cocktails instead – whats not to like.
After having our first drink, and a bite of bread with balsamic and oil, the first appetizers was served. Spicy Thai Tuna, Advokado Ceviche, Cilantro and Shallots and Crisp Saffron Arancini, Rucola and Tomato Jalapeño Salsa – very rich in taste. The Tuna had a bit of a bite, with a obvious chili taste – very asian and delicious.
The it was time for the soup, a Rosted Butternut Pumpkin Soup with Porcini Tortellini. Again a great texture and taste in the dish – which also had a beautiful rich yellow color.
A little scoop of sorbet to clean the tastebuds, before the main dishes arrived to the table. Flame-grilled Wild Trout Salmon, Choriso Green Pea Puree and Moroccan Salsa. Flame-grilled Wagyu, Mashed Potato, Buttered Asparagus and Wild Mushroom Jus rounded up the best of both the sea and earth. These main courses blew our minds. So tasteful, well prepared and perfectly cooked.
Now it becomes a little embarrassing, because we didn’t have two desserts – we actually had 3 as we couldn’t choose which to taste. We tried the berry tart, the caramel soufflé and the mascarpone mousse.
Overall the food was very good, well prepared and beautiful served. The waiter was very attentive, kind and helpful at all times. We had a great evening at the top of Banyan Tree, with the great views over the city, great company and fantastic service at all points.
As a little bonus info, you can actually, if you are a sugar-head like us, also order a few desserts together with your cocktails, if your are just here for a drink or two. Which we did the evening before having this dinner.
Vertigo gets our best recommendations for a place your should visit a least once while in Bangkok. Bon appetite….
