If your are into dumplings – there is one place to go – Din Tai Fung – which also have restaurants in Bangkok. Din Tai Fung has several times been ranked as one of the worlds best restaurants, nominated by The New York Times back in 1993, and awarded a Michelin Star both in 2009 and 2010. So this is not your everyday dumpling, this is chinese food perfection. The founder Yang Bingyi was born in China, but moved to Taiwan after the civil war, and was working as a cooking oil retailer along with his wife. As Yang lost his job, him and his wife started making and selling steamed buns on the side. The buns became so popular that his wife stopped selling oil and they focused only on the dumplings, with their first restaurant in Taipei. Din Tai Fung produces their dumplings in very high quality, and each dumpling weighed to make sure that it meets the standards of the restaurant.
We had a dinner with some friends living in Bangkok, at Din Tai Fung in Central Embassy shopping center Bangkok. Honestly – this is surely not a place you will go to enjoy a beautiful decor or attentive waiters. In our opinion it looked more like a cantina in an office, than a famous restaurant. So we where a little excited on what was to come in the wooden baskets for dinner. But as our teeth met the first dumpling, we realized that this place is all about the food, and just the food. The taste was really good, strong and very diverse in the different dishes. We were very surprised and Din Tai Fung is a thing we will recommend to everyone, who wants to taste the dumplings, and would like this to be in great quality.
So Din Tai Fung Dumplings in Bangkok is for certain something you have to do, if you would like to taste this Chinese speciality and are in Bangkok for a few days.
