Imagine a place where you enter a ancient city, when you drive through the gates to the resort. A place, where you step into a fantasy and live amongst a piece of asian history. Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai has been awarded the best hotel in Thailand, and we can understand why. This resort is so impressive in all aspects.
We arrived from the airport, and when we drove over the first little bridge to enter the site, the first medieval effect came into mind – the sound of the big wooden beams of the bridge moving a bit, as the taxi drove over. Arriving at the main building where the front dest is located, we dropped the jaws…. for the first, but not last time. The main building is hugely impressive, and as the rest of the property with architecture inspired by the Lanna Kingdom, influenced by the northern Thailand, Myanmar, China and Laos. The property stretching over 60 acres of rice fields, exotic plantations and different kinds of ancient buildings, constructed to look old, even thought the first parts was ready to use in 2006. The story behind this place is the visions of local business man, how wanted to create a resort which have never been seen before. A place, where he could build his own ancient city and asian fairytale, and make it possible to stay in a resort never seen before. With the biggest respect for the history and architecture of the area, an huge team of workers, designers and architects, has created a city where the attention to the details shows in every building, every room and every thought behind the resort.
As you properly already can imagine Dhara Dhevi is not you average resort, and by far not something you can absorb within a few hours. At our check in, we noticed to warm and welcoming the staff and managers were. Right from the first second the relaxing sense and tranquillity of the resort came over us. This is a place you go to relax, to calm your should and to enjoy the beauty of the northern Thailand. After this very comfortable check in, we were escorted to our Grand Deluxe Villa with private pool, situated at the edge of the resort, at the rice fields. This villa is the perfect hideaway for a couple like us, with both outdoor terraces, pool, outdoor kitchen, balcony, huge bedroom, bathroom with separate shower, toilet and bathtub, wardrobe etc. All the furniture is lovely wooden, comfortable and a perfect match to the structure of the villa, build in bricks and dark warm wood, and the atmosphere of the villa puts you in a relaxing mode right away. It is very nice to have lots of space for your clothes and even though the floor plan is quite open, you still have the privacy you need in the room.
The butler service makes sure that you at all times have everything you need, and picks you up when you need to go to the front desk, or to enjoy the heavenly breakfast each morning. The butlers do their very best, and the Oot, a young guy helping us out, even arranged a private transportation for us to go see some of the different sights in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Just because he would like to help us.
In the next row of articles we will return to some of the other details of this marvelous resort….
