Dhara Dhevi Chiang Mai – The Property and the entire resort is an attraction for itself. This huge property, with over 60 acres, has everything you need in a resort, and when you stay here, be sure to have enough time to explore the resort.
Near the main building the suites are located in the colonial wings around the beautiful garden and pond. Each morning while the guests are enjoying their breakfast at the terrace, one of the water buffalos are having a bath in the water, while the keeper plays traditional northern thai tunes on a wooden flute. This soundtrack is a great way to start the day, and when you get up from the seat, the mood perfect for a day in Chiang Mai.
The different Villas are situated in small villages all over the lot. The villages are inspired by different thai, chinese, cambodian ancient architecture, so as you walk around between the buildings, the experience changes. All over the lot, several huge rice fields are build and rice planting is one of the most popular activities for the guests, mainly their children. The effort that have been put in to the construction and design is very impressive, and even though the building are only a few years old, the entire resort feels like it has been here for many many years. The design team has put a lot of attention into every detail, to make the illusion as close to perfect as possible. And they succeeded, that is for sure.

The art and craft village where guest, mainly the younger ones, can learn some of the local handcrafts like basket making, bamboo weaving, rice pounding, paper cutting and flower arranging in the original northern Thai style.
The Dhara Dhevi Cooking Academy, their own Thai cooking school located on the upper story of a wooden pavilion. Here you have kitchens which are all fitted with modern equipment and can hold groups to up to 20 students.
Jum Sri Hall Labrary holds a vast collection of books, journals and periodicals related to the region’s art, culture, cuisine and traditions. Everything is complimentary to the guests to expand the knowledge of the area.
Kad Dhara Shopping Village is located right at the edge of the resort. Build in the northern thai local style, the shops hold a unique place for shopping in a number of specialty shops and upscale designer boutiques as well as the famous coffee shop, where you can have some of the most fantastic cakes and macaroons.
The Health and Fitness Center is a state of the art fitness center, with every needed machine and weight, and two outdoor tennis courts, and two swimming pools.
A Kids club offers lessons on thai dancing and music, arts and crafts as well as traditional thai games and toys, so the children can experience the local historic ways of life.
The huge Ayurveda Spa offers one of the best awarded spas in the entire world, and is build like a Burmese template in Mandaley, Myanmar and took over three and a half years to complete. The amount of hand carved details are impressive, and overall the spa is so amazing, that we are going to return to this in a later separate post. Just getting the idea to build a ancient city as a hotel, and investing even more in making it look old and original, tell us a lot about the story and persons behind this place.
