During our stay at Dhara Dhevi we had the pleasure to have dinner at the famous Le Grand Lanna restaurant, known for the vast amount of Lanna artifacts and sublime dining with the best classic Thai and Northern Lanna dishes. The menu is very diverse, and combine a lot of different traditional thai foods from all over this beautiful country. Under normal conditions the restaurant is located just opposite shopping village, but while we where here, it was refurbished, and the dinner was served in the Akaligo, which also have a beautiful setting. Each evening a cultural team performs for a hour with traditional music and dancing. These members are very talented and the show was beautiful and with a twist of humor.
As our starters we had Khong Wang Ruam, a selection of the Le Grand Lanna signature appetizers and Salad Ruam Ros, the traditional spicy papaya salat with shrimps.
For main courses, your choices was the Gai Phad Med-Ma-Muand – the stir fried chicken with cashews, Khao Os Sap-Pa-Rod – fried rice in pineapple with cashew and diced pineapple and Gaeng Ped Nuea – Red curry with beef.
For dessert, we had to try the famous Khao Niew Ma-Muanf Gab – Sweet sticky rice with ripe mango and coconut ice cream.
Overall the entire selection of food was well prepared, well served and well enjoyed. If your would like to experience something as rare as a true thai gourmet restaurant, Le Grand Lanna is a obvious choice in Chiang Mai. A lot of thai-food-foodies always claim that you can eat just as well in the street kitchens as in the restaurants, but do yourself the favor to try something a lot over the typical standard – it is different world and your tastebuds will love you for it.
