Just as the heartbeat in th golden triangle, you can find another part of Kuala Lumpur, which is just the same, but at the same time, something completely different. As most big cities over the world, Kuala Lumpur also has China Town, or Petaling Street, as it is also known by. This part of the city is just as vibrant and busy as KLCC and Bukit Bintang, but also very different, full of different colors, mixed styles, thousands of small stalls selling all the things you would very know you needed, noisy and dirty. China Town in Kuala Lumpur is one of the most popular tourist spots in Malaysia, a well known bargain hunter’s paradise. You can by all sorts of goods from clothes, herbs, imitation goods, foods etc here. At night time, the market turns into…… tadaaaa…. a night market and the haggling just seems to go on forever and ever.
In Kuala Lumpur the the most famous towers are certainly the Petronas Twin Towers – but we would like to tell you about another tower, which provides you 360 degree views over this fantastic city. The Menera Tower Kuala Lumpur, also known as the KL Tower, was build in the start of the 90’s and the very top of the antenna reaches 421 meters. The loft of the main dome is 335 meters over ground level.
Once the day is coming to the end, after hardcore shopping in the Golden Triangle in Kuala Lumpur, you need a good place to relax and have a drink. But do KL offers something like this? IT sure does – and because you are staying at Mandarin Oriental as we advised earlier – you can walk to “the place to be” in five minutes.
At the top of Traders Hotel by Shangri la, the area surrounding the top floor pool, turns into a skybar instead. The atmosphere is very laid back, with colorful lights and lounge music. The most stunning part of the par, is by far the breathtalking views from the bar towards the Petronas Towers. It is possible to get seats right at the glass facade facing towards the towers, but you really have to get there early or book a seat.
If you want a great place, with a cool atmosphere and killer views to enjoy a few good cocktails, Traders in Kuala Lumpur is certainly the place to go.
They are not reaching the skies, but the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur – build from 1993 to 1996 is the sign of the city, is one of the most spectacular buildings of its time. Nowadays the world has seen a lot of higher, bigger, better and brighter towers. But if you are going to KL, the towers is for sure a place that you must go. Standing at the base of the towers, you will have to lean back your neck, to glance towards the top, 451 meters above you. The towers is really an impressive view, especially for us, living in the danish capital Copenhagen, where when only have a few handfuls of buildings rising higher than 20 floors.
We visited the towers on a beautiful december night, but if you would like to shoot some great pictures of the city, choose a tour in daylight. Besacue there is a lot og lights on the building, there is quite a large amount of reflections in the glass at nighttime, the views are still stunning, but if the ever return to Kuala Lumpur, we will pay the towers a daytime visit.
After replying to our cabdriver for the third time, asking if the really was “Mandarin Oriental” and not “D Oriental” we wanted to go to, we made our way from Kuala Lumpur airport to the fancy and modern center of Kuala Lumpur, known as The Golden Triangle. In defense of the cabdriver, he was properly just trying to avoid any the embarrassment of us, if our destination actually was the 2 star D Oriental, and not the 5 star world famous luxury hotel Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur. Actually very nice of him.
The Mandarin Oriental is really our kind of luxury hotel – when staying at the Club Deluxe floors, 25 th to 29 th floor, you are spending you time in a super tranquil and relaxing environment. You have your separate lounge at the 30. floor, where both breakfast, deli lunch, afternoon tea and evening cocktails are served free of charge, combined with breathtaking views over KL park and city center. Here you never feel like sitting in a crowed restaurant, with yelling children running around, making you choke in the food, just to get out in a heartbeat.
