The two old cities Buda and Pest at the Donau-river in Hungary, has over the years grown into each other, and became Budapest. We went to Budapest in the spring of 2012, on one of our implosive holidays. As before, we went on this holiday, without having certain expectations for the city.
On the internet we read that “Budapest is like Paris and Pragh combined”, which was the picture we had in our heads, when the taxi took us from the airport towards our hotel. This picture didn’t quite match the things we saw out of the windows of the mini-bus, so we were a bit sceptic as we got closer to our hotel, the five-star New York Palace, Boscolo Budapest http://budapest.boscolohotels.com. But then, when we turned in to the parking space in front of the hotel, the scenery chanced to match the pictures in our heads.
If you are going to Budapest, and you like luxury hotels, New York Palace, is one of the hotels you must consider. It is not placed right besides Donau, but a 10 minutes walk from the river.
The New York Palace is also residence for the famous New York Cafe. Budapest is world famous for cakes and cafes, so by staying at “the palace” – you combine two great things at one place. You MUST give yourself the pleasure of the breakfast at the hotel, it might be a bit expensive, but really worth every euro.
The center of Budapest is modern metropol, with a beautiful twist of history and carma. There are a lot of beautiful buildings to see, ex the parliament, the castle at the Budaside, the Gellert Hotel, which also is a world famous natural spa.
One of the things you mustn’t miss when visiting Budapest, the the marketplace at the Pest side of the Freedom Bridge. Is it a cool place, where you can buy a lot of the local foods.
If you go to Budapest for a few days, our bet advise is to take a tour bus around to see the different parts of the city. Normally we are not fans of these pre-fixed tours, and like to see the cities we visit by foot. But in Budapest, it worked really good. Some of the tour operators also offers a night -tour with the bus – a great idea!
So go ahead – book a flight for Budapest, take 4 or 5 days in the city, stay at the New York Palace, and enjoy a fantastic city which is often forgotten , because people goes to Paris, London, Madrid, Barcalona etc…
